Schumer Nails Gonzo

Close to the end of AG Gonzalez's testimony....

Schumer summarized Gonzale’s testimony, saying that he had failed the three criteria or tests by which his testimony was expected to be judged today by the committee…

Gonzo responded that the allegations to which he was being subjected required proof, and the onus of proof (against Gonzo) lay with the committer---i.e. innocent until proven guilty—fair enough one might think…BUT…)
Schumer responds that the hearing is not a court of law (something Gonzalez should know of course—my interjection) and that it is about why the USAs were fired…the onus (says Schumer) is on Gonzalez to provide clear justifications for their firings —professional performance— for which he has failed to provide any clear evidence, and especially when the evidence (evaluations and prosecution records) contradict Gonzos public justifications for firing them.

No response from Gonzo.

I'm pretty convinced he will resign after this is over... or before it gets any hotter for him.
I've been listening on NPR and it's been interesting listening to him try to own up but always pulling it back just enough to cover his ass.
Pathetic.

Hey targa! Nice to hear from you again.
I wouldn't place bets on a resign -by date but lordy after todaysperformance it has GOT to come soon! I think it comes down to wheter the GOP can afford to still be associated with him versus his importance to the conservate and religious base...if Goodling testifies with immunity ( and we revisit Sampson as counterpoint to G's testimony today--that should break him.
Though Christ I can;t beleive Bush is still in power!!!!

doc... yeah... he had the chance to really, REALLY hammer Gonzo about "the plan"--he stttled for highlighting the logical inconstency instead of just yelling BULLSHIT!!!
But he totally naile dhim at the end and with a lot of class. Schumer isn't always my fave, but he is really professional about this sort of thing. Schumer, Waxman, Conyers are a sharp tought team. Also kudos to Feinstein today too.

Feinstein.. jessh.. sometimes she isnt my fav. 'bert looks like Glass Joe at this point. He, for some reason, feels the need to avoid calling the firings political. When, everybody knows just that. He had two options... mislead and pray GW keeps him on. Or.. tell the truth and be fired.

The Chimp doesnt like to hear the truth.. I'm guessing 'bert stays on the team. Just look at Wolf-y and the World Bank. Mistakes were make there too.

He had no response to that because he has no plan...Had no plan. won't get a plan. Just plan A disguised as plan B. Domino theory bring your gnarly ass out of that room and begin your tumble-down dance!

again with the "I didn't do it" comment deletions!

Park...yup, Feinstein ain;t perfect, but did a good job here in being pointed and prepared.

Gonzo is losing ground--the fact that he "prepared" for a month to deliver what was supposed to be the "truth" and then delivered such a sorry ass performnace is getting some play--not enough IMHO but some is encouraging. But I think Goodling has to be interviewed under oath to rail nail the coffin shut. The notion makes me sick but for a good cause I can cope with it.

I thought Feinstein did well when she lead up to he biggie question like a stern mother and asked...who actually are the people that did the firing of the attorneys. Just tell us who is the one that is responsible. Nada! He squirmed like the toad he was...I enjoyed every minute of it. Schumer was great and I liked what Leahy did as a summation...that just said it all.
